On May 30th, China Telecom and the Shanghai Municipal Government jointly launched the construction of “Building a Double Gigabit Demonstration City” in Shanghai on the 30th, which marked Shanghai as the first 5G trial city of China Telecom. According to reports, in 2019, China Telecom will accelerate the 10G optical network into commercial buildings and industrial parks on the basis of the completion of the full coverage of Shanghai's Gigabit broadband network. China Telecom has also accelerated the pace of 5G construction, and this year has launched the first batch of 5G network construction in key areas. By 2020, China Telecom's 5G network will cover Shanghai's central city and major towns.
China Telecom has launched a number of 5G trial network construction in key areas in Shanghai, including the National Development and Reform Commission demonstration project, five 5G application demonstration zones identified by the Shanghai Municipal Government, and the Import Expo, World Artificial Intelligence Conference, World Mobile Congress, Pudong Pro. A number of “Double Gigabit Demonstration” construction projects, such as the Hong Kong Industrial Park and the Lujiazui Financial District, will give priority to the application of 5G innovations such as party building, transportation, medical care and large-scale live broadcast activities to key areas and industries in Shanghai.
At the meeting, China Telecom also released the "White Paper on Smart Homes" (abbreviated as "White Paper"), explaining China Telecom's smart home capability system, core business segments and actions in continuous innovation, protocol interoperability, service upgrades, and ecological cooperation. At the conference, China Telecom and more than 20 alliance partners signed a 2019 terminal purchase intention letter; China Telecom Shanghai and nine advanced manufacturing companies signed a 5G+ smart manufacturing cooperation memorandum to create an industrial Internet platform to empower the manufacturing transformation and upgrading; China Telecom Shanghai also signed strategic cooperation with the representatives of 16 district governments in Shanghai to create a “beautiful home” and to plug in the wings of informationization for the Shanghai community.
