How to choose the right fiber jumper for your network

(Summary description)The optical fiber in the fiber jumper mainly includes OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 multimode and OS2 single mode. The connector type of the fiber jumper also includes SC, ST, FC, LC, MTRJ and E2000. These have no fixed choices in practical applications, so how to choose the right fiber jumper for the network? Follow these 6 steps.

The optical fiber in the fiber jumper mainly includes OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 multimode and OS2 single mode. The connector type of the fiber jumper also includes SC, ST, FC, LC, MTRJ and E2000. These have no fixed choices in practical applications, so how to choose the right fiber jumper for the network? Follow these 6 steps.

1, choose the right connector type
Different connectors are used to insert different devices. If the ports on both devices are the same, we can use the LC-LC / SC-SC / MPO-MPO jumper. LC-SC / LC-ST / LC-FC jumpers may be more appropriate if you want to connect different port type devices.

2, choose single mode or multimode cable type
Single mode fiber patch cords are available with 9/125um fiber and multimode fiber patch cords are available with 50/125um or 62.5/125um fiber. Single mode fiber jumpers are mainly used for long distance data transmission. Multimode fiber patch cords are primarily used for short range transmission. The sheath of a typical single-mode fiber patch cord is yellow, while the jacket of a multimode fiber patch cord is orange or blue.

3, choose simplex or duplex cable type
Simplex means that the fiber patch cord has only one fiber optic cable and only one fiber connector at each end for the bidirectional BIDI optical module. Duplex can be seen as two fiber jumpers side by side for ordinary optical modules.

4, choose the correct jumper length
The length of the fiber jumper is different, usually 1m, 5m, 10m, 20m, 30m, 50m. The appropriate cable length should be chosen according to the distance between the devices to be connected.
5, choose the right connector polishing type
Since the loss of the APC connector is lower than that of the UPC connector, the optical performance of the APC connector is generally better than that of the UPC connector.
In the current market, APC connectors are widely used in applications such as FTTx, passive optical networks, and wavelength division multiplexing that are more sensitive to return loss. But APC connectors are usually more expensive than UPC connectors, so you should consider whether you need an APC connector based on your actual situation.
For applications that require high-precision fiber optic signals, APC should be the first consideration, but other less sensitive systems will perform equally well with UPC. Typically, the fiber patch cord with the APC connector is green, while the UPC connector is blue.
6, choose the right fiber jumper sheath
Generally, there are three types of jumper sheaths: PVC, LSZH, OFNP.
PVC material jumper sheath is common: fireproof capacity is generally, the price is the lowest; LSZH jumper sheath is made of low-smoke halogen-free material, environmental protection and flame retardant performance is better, but the price is more expensive; OFNP jumper protection The set is flame retardant, this material will automatically extinguish when it leaves the fire source, and the price is the most expensive, suitable for large data centers.
In addition to the above three jumpers, there is another armored fiber jumper. Its steel casing structure makes it possible to protect fragile fibers well and has a strong bending resistance. These jumpers can withstand higher pressures, so they are suitable for routing along the floor and other areas that may be stepped on. The fiber jumper also has the advantages of strong wear resistance, resistance to pulling, and rat biting.
